Sterling Energy cameroon. Sterling Energy Plc is a UK based independent oil and gas exploration company; focused primarily on material exploration opportunities in Africa. Having been incorporated in 1983 as an upstream oil and gas company, Sterling Energy Plc was admitted to the AIM market in October 2002. 

Sterling’s current exploration portfolio consists of the following:

• Mauritania: • Mauritania: a 13.5% interest in C-10, an offshore block in the proven Nouakchott Basin, where the operator is Tullow Oil.
• Somaliland: a 40% carried interest in Odewayne, a high potential onshore exploration block operated by Genel Energy and partnered with Petrosoma.
• Cameroon*: a 100% interest and operator in the Ntem, a deep water offshore exploration block.

Sterling also has a production royalty interest in the Chinguetti oil field, offshore Mauritania. Sterling is led by a Board and management team with considerable international and African experience in oil and gas exploration, appraisal, development and production.

The Ntem concession area is a deep water block situated in the southern Douala / Rio Muni Basin and lies adjacent to the northern maritime border of the Rio Muni province of Equatorial Guinea. Operations within the Ntem concession area were suspended in 2005 under the force majeure provisions of the licence owing to an overlapping maritime border claim between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea (the “Affected Area”).

In November 2011 Sterling completed a farm-out agreement with Murphy Cameroon Ntem Oil Co. Ltd (“Murphy“), a wholly owned subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation, under which Murphy were assigned a 50% working interest in, and operatorship of, the Ntem concession; Sterling retained a 50% non-operated working interest. As part of the consideration, Murphy was committed to fully fund Sterling’s share of the costs of drilling one exploration well.
