This award is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have been employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. as an associate for at least six consecutive months. The student must have financial need and be able to prove such need via required documentation. Application requirements for the Walmart Associate Scholarship are:

How many times a year can an associate apply for a Walmart Associate Scholarship?

Associate can apply during each of the 4 award periods during a single Walmart Fiscal Year (Feb. 1-Jan. 31) or until a scholarship is awarded. Only one scholarship can be awarded for each degree or certificate sought.

The student must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with required documents. Students with other funds that pay entirely for tuition, books, fees, and on-campus room and board are ineligible.

Walmart the largest private employer in the U.S. will now help its associates pay for college without the burden of student loan debt. Walmart will pay for 100% of tuition and books. Available through Walmart’s Live Better U education program.

Does Walmart offer any scholarships to employees?

The Walmart scholarship is available to staff members (employees) who participate in the Walmart Lifelong Learning Program through the American Public University, and for associates pursuing postsecondary education at an institution of higher education.

How long do you have to work at Walmart before they pay for your college?

Associates must be employed 90 days before becoming eligible for the benefit. If an employee has to terminate their employment before completing their degree, they do NOT have to repay any college funds.

Walmart Scholarship Award Amount:

  • The funding levels per award period for students attending APU and two-year institutions are as follows: for 3-6 credit hours, $500; for 7-11 credit hours, $750; and for 12 or more credit hours, $1,000.
  • The funding levels per award period for students attending four-year and graduate institutions are as follows: for 3-6 credit hours, $750; for 7-11 credit hours, $1,125; and for 12 or more credit hours, $1,500.
  • The funding limits per Walmart fiscal year are as follows: certificate program (undergraduate or graduate), $1,500; associate’s degree, $2,000; bachelor’s degree, $3,000; and graduate degree, $2,000.
  • All amounts are within a single Walmart fiscal year. The maximum amount a student can receive over six years is $16,000. The scholar can continue to renew the scholarship until the degree or certificate is awarded, the funding limit has been reached, or the six-year time limit has lapsed, whichever comes first.
  • To renew, the scholar must provide proof of a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and enrollment of at least three credit hours in the upcoming term.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $195,000.

Deadline for this scholarship is August 31.

Who is eligible to apply for Walmart Associate Scholarship?

  • Must be employed part-time or full-time with any division of Walmart for at least six consecutive months prior to the application due date for the award period in which the associate is applying.
  • Must have graduated high school/home school, have obtained a GED or be a graduating high school senior who intends to enroll in a college or university upon graduation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States.
  • If applying as a graduating high school senior, must wait to apply until you are within 6 months of starting your college courses.
  • Must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with the required documents. (Note: Associates with other funds that pay entirely for tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board are not eligible.)
  • Academic requirement- an associate must have graduated high school/home school or obtained a GED before applying, or a graduating high school senior who is within 6 months of starting college course.
