NYU Med School Tuition & Financial Aid
NYU School of Medicine offers a full-tuition scholarship to every student regardless of merit or financial need. This amounts to a scholarship of $56,272 per year for each student. The institution does require students to carry medical insurance and to pay for additional fees and living expenses.
NYU Med School Courses
With the exception of MD/Ph.D. candidates, who take it before beginning their Ph.D. study, students take the USMLE Step 1 exam after their clerkship year. NYU3T (a collaborative program with the New York University College of Nursing) and PLACE are also part of the curriculum (Patient-Based Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience).
New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine also offers 5-year dual degree programs, some of which can be completed in as little as four years:

Only students admitted into the 4-year stream are eligible to apply to the 3-year program. Students in the three-year program are guaranteed a residency slot at NYU Langone Health in the specialty of their choice. They complete preclinical training at the same time as four-year students, but they begin clinical rotations six weeks sooner and spend the summer after their first year doing a summer fellowship in the department of their choice.
Is NYU Med School Tuition Free?
The School of Medicine at New York University (NYU) covers the cost of tuition for all previous and current students, regardless of merit or financial need. NYU is the only top-ranked US medical school that offers full-tuition scholarships to all students, including overseas students.
NYU’s program takes effect immediately and will pay tuition prices of $55,000 per year for 443 existing students. Students will, however, be responsible for covering their own accommodation, board, and other fees and expenditures, which total roughly $27,000 each year.
Bachelor’s Degree and GPA
Applicants to NYU Grossman School of Medicine must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. The median and average undergraduate GPAs for students in our most recent incoming class were 3.96 and 3.92, respectively.
Letters of Evaluation
Providing letters of evaluation is part of the NYU School of Medicine application process. It is required to provide a premedical committee appraisal letter (preferred) or two letters from professors who taught you in courses (at least one in science). Nontraditional applicants are encouraged to submit two letters of recommendation from colleagues with whom you’ve worked closely. Applicants must submit letters of recommendation via the AMCAS® Letter Service.
