How do I get a QIDP certification?
The National Association of Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (QIDPs) offers a certification program for Developmental Disability Professionals (DDPs). This program is for a variety of professionals, including Case Managers, QIPDs, Service Coordinators.
Application requirements on how to get the certificate:
- Complete a DDP Certificate Program Application.
- Provide a resume, three professional letters of recommendation, and a completed background screening consent form.

QIDP Job Experience Requirements
A Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) must have at least one year of experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities, meet the minimum federal educational requirements, and must provide documentation of both education and experience.
Direct work experience may include, but is not limited to:
- Gathering behavior program data by interacting with or observing consumers to determine appropriate program implementation.
- Involvement with consumers in programming at residential, work sites and other venues.
- Case management or activities that include involvement with consumers in daily, work or social activities.
- Interactions with consumers in the implementation of individual service plans, education plans or behavior programs.
Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional Job & Educational Requirements
The QIDP Course Coordinator must complete a Checklist A for each employee who is to perform the duties of a QIDP. A copy of the QIDP’s resume and degree transcripts must be attached to the Checklist A. The resume should indicate the dates and locations where the QIDP worked directly with or was involved with people with developmental disabilities. In addition to one year of experience supporting or interacting with persons with developmental disabilities, a QIDP must have one of the following educational credentials:

What are the DDP Program admission requirements?
To qualify for admission into the existing Certificate Program, candidates must:
- Complete the DDP Certificate Program application (which includes three professional letters of recommendation, resume, and a background screening consent form). A non-refundable application fee of $150 is required at the time of submission.
- Pass a background screening (including criminal, educational, and employment checks).
- Provide two written essays which are evaluated & graded by NAQ staff.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a human services or medical related field. Candidates with guaduate degrees can be considered for admission even if their undergraduate degree is not in a human services or medial related field.
- Have at least one year of experience working with people who have disabilities.
