Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships In Germany Requirements 2025-2026. German and international students from any discipline and higher education institution are invited to apply for the scholarship by the Foundation and the scholarship is geared to particularly gifted students from Germany and abroad. Applicants from any discipline and higher education institution are eligible for funding: talented students showing excellent promise for future academic and professional careers.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1650 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunst-/Musikhochschulen’). The deadline for applications is 1st March and 1st September.

What Are The Benefits of Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships?
Ph.D. students get up to €1350 per month, with an extra €100 paid each month as the allowance for research. UG and PG students get €752 per month and a book allowance of €300. There are provisions for family and/or health and childcare insurance in some cases. The benefits mentioned above apply to foreigners/German citizens educated in Germany and EU nationals. Non-EU nationals who are not educated in Germany get €1,200 per month if they are Ph.D. aspirants, along with the mobility allowance of €100 each month. Graduate and undergraduate aspirants receive €861each month. Students also get varying allowances in many categories.
Eligibility for Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships
- Level DSH 2 or B2 German language proficiency.
- Applications are not accepted for undergraduate degrees.
- Proof of the first qualification for all applicants. Only Master’s degrees are eligible in the case of EU and non-EU nationals.
- However, for local or international students educated in German, their first degree (Diploma/Bachelor) will be eligible for the scholarship.
