Master Mind Scholarships in Belgium 2025-2026 : Requirements, Eligibility criteria
The Master Mind Scholarships in Belgium for 2025-2026 academic year has been launched. Every year, the Government of Flanders awards scholarships to academically outstanding students for master programmes in Flanders and Brussels. It is estimated that 30 international students will be able to benefit from a Master Mind scholarship to start their studies in this academic year which are divided over the different Flemish higher education institutions.
Incoming students are awarded a maximum scholarship of €10.000 per academic year. All new international students who have been (academically) admitted to start any of the university’s master programmes (including advanced masters) in the academic year 2025-2026 are eligible. The applicant should have a high standard of academic performance and/or potential (a GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 and good knowledge of the English language).
What is the Selection Procedure and Timeline of Master Mind Scholarships?
- A student is not able to apply directly, it is the master programme coordinator who proposes the number applicants (motivation + ranking in case of several candidates).
- The International Relations Office will screen all files and submits a shortlist of students by the end of April to the Flemish Government who will make the final decision.
- Shortlisted students will be contacted by the university’s International Office by mid- April with the necessary information to complete their online Master Mind scholarship application in the Mobility Online tool.
- The final selection results will be announced by the selection committee of the Flemish Government in June 2025.

How Do I Get A Master Mind Scholarship?
Are you eligible to apply for the Master Mind Scholarships? The Master Mind scholarships are incorporated in the normal application scheme to obtain admission and only academically admitted students will be considered. A student is not able to apply before he/she is preselected by the master programme coordinator.
The following eligibility Criteria is used for master’s degree programme at a Flemish higher education institution:
- All nationalities, except for Russian nationals, can apply. The previous degree obtained should be from a higher education institution located outside Flanders. International students who have been on credit mobility in a hosting Flemish higher education institution are still eligible for a Master Mind Scholarship.
- Applicant can be nominated by only one Flemish higher education institution. If the applicant is preselected by more than one Flemish higher education institution, he/she has to choose one Flemish higher education institution to submit his/her application into the Mobility Online tool.
- Students who enrol for the following programmes for the academic year 2025-2026 are not eligible for the Master Mind Scholarship:
- Distance learning
- Preparatory programmes
- Bridging programmes.
- Distance learning
- The host institution also performs an academic check of the student’s file. The student has to be accepted by the host institution in order to receive the scholarship. This criterion applies even if the host institution’s decision to accept the student is taken after the selection for the Master Mind Scholarship programme.
- Students should have a good knowledge of the English language:
- A minimum total score of 94 on a TOEFL test.
- An overall minimum band score of 7.0 on the IELTS test.
- A C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference
- Or a similar result in another official language test (recognized by the host institution)
- Online language tests of IELTS and TOEFL will also be accepted:
- TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition.
- IELTS Indicator.
- For the students who apply for a master’s programme at a school of arts should have at least:
- A B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference
- Or a similar result in another official English language test (recognized by the host institution).
- A minimum total score of 90 on the TOEFL test
- An overall band score of minimum 6.5 on the IELTS test
- Online language tests of IELTS and TOEFL will also be accepted:
- IELTS Indicator.
- TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition.
- Students who are already enrolled in a Flemish higher education institution cannot apply. The only exception is made for international students who, at the moment of their application in Spring 2024, are already enrolled in a specific preparatory programme in order to start a master’s programme in September 2024.
How to apply for the Master Mind Scholarships
- STEP 1: Check if you are eligible to apply and if the Flemish institution of your choice participates in the Master Mind Scholarships
- STEP 2: Submit your application to the host institution before the institution’s deadline.
- STEP 3: The host institution preselects the eligible applications.
- STEP 4: The host institution starts the application procedure for the Master Mind Scholarship by creating your application file in the Mobility-Online application tool.
- STEP 5: You receive an email generated by the Mobility-Online tool notifying you of being preselected for a Master Mind Scholarship.
- STEP 6: You now have to register in the Mobility-Online tool and complete your application file in the Mobility-Online tool before the deadline.
Documents Needed for Master Mind Scholarship
Upload the following documents on the Mobility-Online tool:
- International passport or national ID.
- Copy of acquired diploma(s); if written in a language other than Dutch, French, German or English, a certified translation must be enclosed.
- Transcript of records; if written in a language other than Dutch, French, German or English, a certified translation must be enclosed.
- Passport photo
- A Curriculum Vitae (including your American GPA out of 4.0 and if applicable your publications, academic awards, previous scholarships, etc.)
- English language test results as mentioned above or letter of exemption provided by the host university.
- Two signed letters of recommendation from professors of your (previous) home university, university of applied sciences (and arts) or recent employer written in English.
- Letter of motivation written in English.
NB: The host institution validates and submits the completed application file in the Mobility-Online tool before the deadline of 28th April 2024 23h59 GMT+1. Applications validated submitted after 28thApril 2024 23h59 GMT+1 will not be accepted.

The duration of mobility is one academic year for a Master programme of 60 ECTS and two academic years for a master programme of 120 ECTS.
